June - Did you Know?"
"The United States passed into law in December 2000 "The National Moment of Remembrance Act". The Law encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3:00 PM local time on Memorial Day for 1 minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation.
"Singing in the shower is all fun and games until you get shampoo in our mouth. Then it becomes a soap opera"
GRAND LODGE HONORS YOURS TRULY
Many thanks to Jay Minick, Glen Rogers and James Salway of Angola Lodge #236 for submitting my application for a Grand Lodge Service Award. I was honored to receive the "Order of Service to Masonry" at the Indiana Grand Lodge Annual Communication last week from Grand Master Rodney Mann. I am surely humbled to receive the award. Over the years it has been a pleasure to labor in the vineyards in a variety of Masonic bodies - it's been a fun experience for me and something I will remember for the rest of my life.
Membership plan for northeast Indiana
A few years back, Steuben County Masons held a "Scottish Rite Luncheon" at Angola Lodge quarterly, the the purpose of brotherhood and exposing Masons to non-Mason guests. We would have 20 to 30 attend this noon luncheon. There would be a speaker and the sharing of Lodge activities.
HEY LETS' START IT UP AGAIN!! Here's the plan. We will meet at Suttons Deli on the square in Angola. Assembly time would start at 11:30 AM or at a time you could get there. They have a great menu to order a small or large noon meal and we would eat in their new dining room (just remodeled). You would leave when you need to leave - especially if you need to get back to work.
The initial date is Wednesday, September 5, 2018. In the meantime think of non-Masons you can invite (AND PUT THE DATE IN YOUR CALENDAR NOW). They would get exposed to current Masons and to informal discussions of Masonic groups. In the past, many of the non-Masons who attended later received a petition and became members.
This will not have a lot of formal presentations, but perhaps a speaker (maybe Masonic or a community leader) with a few words of wisdom. We'll have some fun and fellowship.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...at your June stated meeting of Lodges, please indicate this is about to happen. More importantly, we should have a volunteer from each Lodge to help spread the word and to help form a team on planning on down the road (WILL YOU VOLUNTEER?). As it stands we would plan another one for the first Wednesday in December 2018, March 2019, etc etc.
Please pass on your ideas (via a return email to Paul Friend) or to your Worshipful Master or Lodge Membership Chairman. We all know that we need to grow our Lodges and this should help.

Most of our Blue Lodges will be going dark during the summer, so our list of degree work will diminish for a while.
